Job Description

Citizens Thinkers Writers: Reflecting on Civic Life is a two-week residential summer program and year-long fellowship program at Yale University for students from New Haven public schools who want to think deeply about fundamental human questions in a college setting. Residential Teaching Assistants (RTAs) provide mentorship, lead small breakout groups, organize supplementary workshops, work with students on analytic reading and writing skills essential for success at college, and facilitate a positive learning environment and community. RTAs are also expected to serve as mentors and advisors on the college admissions and decisions process, and to commit to continuing in this role throughout the 2023-24 academic year.

Job Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate maturity, enthusiasm, and a commitment to working with youth from backgrounds historically underrepresented in higher education, including low-income and first-generation college students. Applicants must also possess a strong interest in the humanities, a love of reading and writing, and excellent communication skills. Experience working in a mentoring, advising or teaching capacity is required. Must be rising junior or senior at Yale College. Program dates are July 9th to July 21st, preceded by mandatory training sessions on July 7th and 8th. RTAs must live on campus in Yale’s dormitories from Sunday through Friday during the program. RTAs receive full room and board July 7–21 and a stipend of $2,000.
