Job Description

The Drone Facilitator/s at the Yale Center for Geospatial Solutions will help manage our growing fleet of Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and their payloads (i.e., lidar, multispectral, thermal, and RGB). In particular, this person will work directly with their supervisor on testing and onboarding different UAVs and payloads. This includes things like acquiring and processing test data as well as drafting protocols and best practices. An FAA Part 107 license is preferred but not a requirement. Experience with high precision GNSS instruments is preferred but not a requirement.

 

Key Responsibilities

·      Help with or lead UAV test flights

·      Help with or lead UAV field campaigns

·      Charge and maintain batteries

·      Derive operational protocols for UAVs and payloads

·      Create documentation for flight planning best practices

·      Generate charts highlighting capabilities and limitations of UAVs and payloads

·      Produce general UAV equipment documentation for YCGS website

Job Requirements

·      FAA Part 107 license (preferred)

·      Familiarity with UAVs and payloads

·      Knowledge of high precision GNSS instruments (preferred)

·      Ability to parse and understand technical manuals and documentation

·      Excellent interpersonal and written communication

·      Ability to work independently after given a task/s

·      Strong attention to detail and time management skills

·      Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Teams)

·      Ability to handle equipment weighing up to 25 pounds (preferred)

Work Location When meeting with the supervisor in person, the candidate may be asked to come to either The Earth Observation Lab at 21 Sachem Street (Room 119) or to 37 Hillhouse Avenue (Room 112), depending on the meeting location scheduled. There are no specific days in person or remote, as these may change depending on the student’s schedule and availability. Fieldwork will consist of outdoor UAV missions in the New Haven area.
