Job Description

Position Summary:

The Yale Center for British Art seeks to hire a cohort of six dynamic, inventive, and engaging graduate students (Master’s and/or Doctoral in any discipline) to facilitate interactive museum visits for K–12 classes, contribute to artmaking workshops for families, and occasionally facilitate programs and visits for other audiences.

The Partners in Museum Learning program is a new initiative that will explore how museum-based teaching can play a vital role in connecting the educational and cultural life of Yale with the broader New Haven community. In support of schoolteachers and caregivers, these graduate students will extend learning into contexts outside the classroom. The program will prepare and position graduate students to utilize artworks as vehicles for discovering and developing meaningful connections among their own educational paths, those of their peers, and those of young New Haveners and their families. Through their work in the galleries, Partners in Museum Learning will recognize, value, and foster the intellect and curiosity of all children while putting their academic training into public service. In partnership with visitors of all ages, they will fulfill Yale’s core mission to “create, disseminate, and preserve knowledge.”

About the YCBA:

The Yale Center for British Art’s (YCBA) permanent collection of paintings, sculptures, and works on paper spans more than five centuries and is the foundation for a museum uniquely focused on the complex histories, legacies, and shifting contexts of British art. The Education Department designs and facilitates programs and learning experiences for visitors of all ages and abilities including curricular integration opportunities for PreK-graduate students; public tours, in-gallery programs, and artmaking programs for visitors of all ages, including families; and access programs for visitors with disabilities.
