What should I do if I am sick?

If you are unable to go to work due to an illness, it is your responsibility to contact your supervisor to explain to them that you will be unable to work. You should “call in” each day you are ill before your shift is scheduled to begin.

Can I take time off for my schoolwork?

Departments are informed that schoolwork is a student priority. Therefore, offices should make every attempt to accommodate student’s class schedules and make adjustments during exam periods. You should discuss any upcoming assignments that would interfere with your work schedule in advance so that office needs are covered.

What happens if I forget to call when absent?

If you forget to contact your supervisor when you are absent, you should contact them as soon as possible to excuse yourself. Remember that you may receive a warning for not contacting your supervisor timely. If you are absent for seven consecutive days without contacting your supervisor, you may be terminated from your job.

What should I do if I am going to be late?

If you are going to be late, it is your responsibility to contact your supervisor stating what time you are expecting to be at work. Excessive tardiness may lead to a written warning and ultimately the termination of your employment.

How should I dress at work?

You should keep in mind that you are representing your department and the University and therefore dress appropriately. Your first step is to check with your supervisor to see if there are any special guidelines on dress especially when working in labs.
