Job Description

The East Rock Record Journalism Project brings the joy and power of journalism to New Haven Public School students. This after-school program, led by veteran New York Times contributing journalist Laura Pappano, works with 25 students in grades 3-8 at the East Rock Community Magnet School. During the academic year, student reporters collaborate with Yale mentors to brainstorm, plan, report, and write (and re-write, of course!) stories of interest for their school and community (www.eastrockrecord.org). Mentors receive training and support from Laura Pappano.

Job Requirements

The program occurs in-school on Thursdays. Applicants must be able to work Thursday afternoons 2pm to 4pm during the academic year. Successful candidates will be strong writers/editors (preferably with journalism experience), creative thinkers, and knowledgeable about current events, news, and issues. Mentors must be organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, patient, flexible, adaptable, and enjoy working with school-aged children.
