Job Description

Student consultants in Statistical Support Services (StatLab) provide high-level instruction and research assistance to faculty, staff and students from across the Yale University community. Student consultants provide assistance at all stages of the research workflow including the collection, manipulation, and management of research data; the design, diagnosis, and creation of research designs; the use, tuning, and evaluation of methodological tools; the interpretation, visualization, and presentation of results; and the maintenance and storage of materials for reproducibility. Beyond consultations, student consultants contribute to the development of research at Yale through the preparation and delivery of instruction materials like how-to guides and workshops. An effective consultant will be well-versed in statistics and modern programming languages. Application deadline for first consideration is July 7. 2025 and will continue until the positions are filled.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with advanced qualitative and/or qualitative data analysis and methodologies and related software (e.g., R, Python, SAS, STATA, NVivo, MaxQDA, etc.).
  • Successful completion of any graduate-level coursework in data analytics and statistics required for advancement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated analytical and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-level instruction to diverse research audiences.
Essential Duties
  • Hold regular office hours in person and virtually for 4-10 hours a week.
  • Develop instructional materials and support technical workshops for digital, data, and methodological literacy at Yale University.
  • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and contribute by providing trainings, sharing expertise, and supporting fellow consultants.
  • Collaborate with the StatLab team to develop user-centered training resources for the Yale community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with two or more of R, Python, or STATA
  • Experience teaching statistics or data science at a graduate level, including workshops or presenting research using advanced methods.
  • Familiarity with Qualitative Research Methods and Software (e.g. NVivo, Atlas.ti, MaxQDA) is a plus.
  • Experience using and designing survey research using modern survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey).
  • Familiarity with IRB research protocols and certified via CITI training program.
Compensation $25.00
