Orientation Assistants (OAs) are an integral part of the Office for International Students & Scholars Graduate & Professional School orientation sessions. OAs welcome new G&P international students to campus and are encouraged to share their experiences as students here at Yale and residents of New Haven. New students want to hear from their peers! OAs will be trained for two major job roles: (1) Present and assist during the OISS orientation sessions in August & beginning of September (approximately 12-20 sessions) and (2) Help facilitate 5-10 programs and events that happen in the evening hours and weekends at the beginning of the Fall semester (late August and September). We will hire four Orientation Assistants (OAs) to assist with our Graduate and Professional School Orientations and post orientation programs. Below details the time commitment: Training: - There will be one or two short trainings in May/early June for our pre-arrival orientation sessions
- There will be three-four trainings in the third or fourth week of July (virtual/in-person possibilities).
- Each training will be approx. 2 hours.
Orientation Presenters This summer, we will run two virtual pre-arrival orientations (approx. 1.5 hours in length) where OAs will assist in presenting. One will be in June and one in early July, but both will be virtual and you do not need to be in New Haven for these sessions. Our regular Orientation season typically run from the last week of July to the first or second week of September. We are looking for candidates that will be in New Haven starting no later than the first week of August. - Each session requires a 1 hour and 45-minute time commitment.
- OAs will be expected to present in-person (training provided), will help set-up/break-down room, welcome students, and share their experiences as a Yale student!
- OISS works with the team of OAs to schedule these sessions, which allows for a flexible work schedule.
Host Programs - OAs will post blog style posts on our pre-arrival app using Yale Connect along with discussion board topics and monitoring. There is also a possibility for some content creation for OISS social media platforms.
- OAs will work with our Associate Director of Engagement to facilitate 5-6 post-orientation programs throughout the beginning of the Fall semester, and assist with several in-person orientation events organized by schools
- OAs can expect 30-45 hours of work in the Summer/Fall 2024 semester.
- Most programs will be held in the evening or weekends.
