Job Description |
Yale Repertory Theatre is a leading professional American theater in residence at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale dedicated to the production of new plays and bold interpretations of classics that make immediate connections to contemporary audiences. Yale Rep is now hiring for front of house positions, including ushers, ticket-takers, concessionaires, and accessibility aids. Responsibilities include patron greeting, ticket scanning/collecting, seat assistance and program distribution, general building and area directional assistance, providing accessibility services, including elevator, ramp, and mobility device support, concessions service and sales, crowd evacuation assistance, outdoor greeting, and other duties as assigned by the House Manager(s) or Assistant Director of Audience Services. The front of house staff works with the House Manager(s) to ensure excellent customer service, safety, and consistency of experience for all patrons. Yale Rep productions typically run 5 times a year over 4 weeks and each usually include 18 Monday through Saturday evening performances, with 3 Saturday matinee performances, and 1 Wednesday matinee performance. Each shift is approximately 2 to 5 hours depending on position assignment and length of show. Shifts usually begin 1 to 2 hours prior to performance start time. Staff members are also offered 4 complimentary tickets per production to see each show and are encouraged to do so. Job Requirements |
To be considered for this position candidates must meet the following criteria: 1. Have customer service experience (retail, food service, working with public, point-of-sale, etc.). 2. Have an appreciation for theater arts. 3. Be available for a minimum of 2 shifts per production week. The following is expected of all front of house staff at all times: 1. Attendance: If you are assigned a shift it is expected that you report unless an emergency arises. 2. Promptness: Your House Manager(s) will assign your call time. You should be at the theater and ready to work by that time. 3. Attentiveness: During your shift, patron service and safety should be the primary focus. 4. Teamwork: You must be ready and willing to collaborate with other employees and students as part of a cohesive team. 5. Flexibility: Your House Manager(s) may ask you to switch duties during a performance. 6. Neat Dress Code: Conservative, all-black clothing is required during all shifts. T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, revealing clothing, denim, sneakers, non-religious headwear, and other casual clothing items are not permitted. You must also wear a name tag (provided for you) at all times. Note: Some positions may require the following: Ability to lift up to 35 lbs., ability to stand for extended periods of times, ability to navigate multiple flights of stairs, ability to work outside for extended periods of times, the ability to navigate in a low-light environment, and act in case of an emergency. |
