In partnership with the New Haven Public Schools, the Office of New Haven Affairs is currently looking to hire undergraduate and graduate students to support classroom teachers, as Classroom Teaching Assistants at the East Rock Magnet and Celentano Schools. These schools are not far from Yale’s campus and each serve about 400 students in grades pre-K through 8. The majority of students are eligible for free and reduced lunch and many of the students attending these schools come from families that have a difficult time meeting their most basic needs. We are seeking a corps of dedicated Yale students to join a team of school administrators and teachers to help these deserving students succeed. Successful candidates must enjoy working with children and be devoted to building a nurturing and safe learning environment. If you are a compassionate and self-motivated individual with a specific interest in education, we urge you to apply! Classroom Assistant work can include supervising students, developing lesson plans, preparing lesson materials, maintaining classroom tidiness, and/or working with individual or small groups of students. The role you will play is an important one and classroom teachers rely on your presence. Therefore, this position may not be a good fit for students who are looking for flexibility in weekly scheduling. While days and hours may change in the second semester, we are looking for a yearlong commitment. |
