The History of Science and Technology collection of the Yale Peabody Museum is seeking students to work on collections activities with Dr. Alexi Baker and her Graduate Museum Fellow. We will mainly work at Yale's Collection Studies Center (building 900) at West Campus, but you might on occasion also work with us at the central Peabody Museum in New Haven. Common activities will include things like photographing and measuring objects for the database to help the public access the collection, helping to do basic conservation and organization with newly-arrived objects, and assisting our preparations for classes / collection visits / exhibitions. This is a great opportunity to interact with fascinating historical artifacts and with Yale's collections and museum work in general. Work can only ever take place from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5 p.m., given museum operation times. Since Dr. Baker needs to be present while you work, you and she and will also need to compare your weekly schedules in advance. You could work from 5 to 15 hours each week, depending on your preference and our schedules. Please feel free to reach out with questions about the position: alexi.baker@yale.edu The Peabody's History of Science and Technology collection contains more than 15,000 artifacts related to science, medicine, and technology from across more than 500 years. Its main storage and work spaces are located in the Collection Studies Center, which also houses other Peabody and Art Gallery collections as well as high-tech conservation, digitization, and scientific research facilities for university collections. The Center is Building 900 on the Green and Purple university shuttle routes or is accessible by car at 900 West Campus Drive. It has an adjoining university cafe, in addition to there being restaurants nearby which are accessible by car. |
