Gallery Attendants (GAs) are stewards of the visitor’s experience at Yale Peabody Museum. They serve as an enthusiastic, welcoming, and approachable presence throughout the museum as they support way finding and access to resources. Gallery Attendants provide information about the collections and special exhibitions. Gallery Attendants receive comprehensive training to support the experience of visitors of all ages. Gallery Attendants will also have the opportunity to be cross trained in the Museum Gift Shop. Gallery attendant training is targeted to develop a network of museum professionals who have a passion for museum engagement. Weekend availability required. Principal Responsibilities • Demonstrate the highest level of customer service, remaining welcoming, personable, and engaging to all museum visitors • Answer a wide variety of visitor questions regarding exhibitions, The Peabody, and New Haven. • Engage in dialogue about the collections on view, inviting the visitor’s insights and perspectives and encouraging conversation and inquiry • Protect the collections while posted in specific areas or galleries, including monitoring for restricted items, and touching of collections items • Assist in wayfinding, providing directions and suggested routes of travel • Promote museum membership; understand any special promotions • Remain knowledgeable about exhibitions, permanent collection galleries, and public programs & events, and promote to visitors • Attend all mandatory department meetings/trainings • Work special events, performances, opening receptions, public programs, and other programs as assigned • Freshen and restock visitor resources and spaces throughout the museum |
