The Urban Resources Initiative (URI) – a New Haven-based environmental non-profit and program of the Yale School of the Environment – is hiring Yale student interns to participate in its GreenSkills tree planting program! We are looking for students who want to contribute to local environmental restoration with the New Haven community through tree planting and urban forestry. A year-long commitment is preferred, but semester-long internships are OK. Opportunities for winter work and additional learning. Job: Hands-on learning in tree planting, tree care, and community forestry. Interns will work alongside members of the community who have incarceration as a part of their life experience. Interns will: drive a truck to transport trees, communicate with tree adopters, update the URI planting data base, work on a team with a culture of mutual respect and appreciation and work outside in most weather conditions. Physical work involved in tree planting includes digging, pushing, lifting, squatting, and carrying. Hours: One 4-6 hour shift per week. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays, 8-12 or 12-5. YSE student rate $17.50/hr A valid US driver’s license is required for tree planting positions.
