Job Description

We are looking for creative and talented student writers who are interested in growing their communication skills in a fast-paced communications environment. Our student editorial writers support the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) Office of Communications by producing editorial content for publication across various YSPH communications channels. This content includes news and feature stories about scientific research, important school lectures and events, general school news, academic achievements, awards and honors, and community spotlights. The student writer may also be asked to support the production of school newsletters, magazines, reports, and other publications as needed, as well as editorial content for YSPH websites. This content will help advance the YSPH Communications team's mission of promoting YSPH as a leading school of public health that is committed to linking science and society and making public health foundational to communities everywhere.

Prior journalism and/or communications writing experience strongly encouraged. Must have proficiency in standard journalism story structure, Associated Press news style, and basic rules of grammar. The student writer should be capable of translating complicated research into easy-to-understand language for the public, making independent decisions on best approaches to a story, conducting interviews, and self-selecting pertinent details in composing a story. Ability to manage multiple assignments and deliver content on tight deadlines a plus.
