Job Description

Summer 2025

The Yale Alumni Association (YAA) connects alumni with each other and with the university through events, programs, reunions, mentorship, educational travel, lifelong learning opportunities, service, and through collaborations with alumni affairs colleagues in the graduate and professional schools. The YAA is working on a research project to learn more about our alumni body, their relationship to the university, and their priorities for engagement with the YAA and the alumni
community in a post-pandemic world. We are about ready to begin focus groups to gather this data. At the end of the project (about 2 years), the Executive Director of the YAA will use this information to formulate a strategic plan to ensure the department is meeting the needs of Yale's alumni.

We are seeking two students to help on this next phase of the project which will primarily handle scheduling focus groups and coding the data that comes out of them.

We are looking for candidates who love qualitative research and want to build upon their skills with practical experience. They should be good team players who are comfortable contributing to a plan and getting their work done. Candidates will be expected to clearly communicate to a non-academic audience in writing and conversation about data, methodologies, and their opinions about the direction of the project.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Help schedule focus group facilitators and participants, keeping track of who has completed consent and disclosure documents
  • Contribute to data cleaning, coding, verification, and documentation in NVivo
  • Contribute to discussions about coding and analysis schemes
  • Write reports and briefs in conjunction with other partners
  • Attend strategy meetings with the whole committee when possible
