We are looking to hire 1-2 Student Leads for the Ecosystem Management and Conservation Learning Community. We are seeking first-year masters or PhD students (with at least 2 years remaining) that can work and learn alongside the two second-year student leads. Description The core responsibilities of this position center around extending education, training, and community building beyond the classroom for students in the Ecosystem Management and Conservation Learning Community utilizing the 16$K annual budget. Importantly, this includes supporting the MEM students who have declared EMC as a specialization and also includes a broader audience of YSE students interested in this field, including MESc, MF, MFS, postdocs and PhD students, along with others across the Yale community. The selected will work closely with EMC Student Leads (Maria Blanco Solana and Cayce Morrison), our faculty coordinator (Marlyse Duguid), and staff coordinator (Michelle Downey). The team will meet weekly to biweekly. Additionally, the selected will collaborate with others in the YSE community. Duties As a team, EMC student leads will work to complete the following: • Take the lead on event coordination, arranging external speaker events, conference planning, community building, etc., through collaboration with other Learning Communities, SIGS, etc. o Events for the year are likely to include an EMC retreat at one of the Yale Forests, skill building workshops, summer funding panel, social events, alumni or practitioner speaking events, etc. • Curate and send bi-weekly newsletter of upcoming events, important announcements, professional and learning opportunities, suggested readings and resources, etc. As needed, sharing additional communication through Discourse, social media, etc. • Support the Admissions Team with prospective student connections, admitted student calls, Admitted Students Open House, and other recruiting events. • Support the Academic Affairs team by attending monthly meetings with them and other student leads for all LCs • Assisting with MEM specialization development, e.g., gathering information from MEM students about curriculum feedback, desired professional skills, etc. • Supporting program evaluation and strategic planning |
