Join us at the Collections Maintenance department in Sterling Memorial Library, the heart of the university. With a responsibility of organizing and maintaining access to over 3.5 million volumes, you’ll be working actively in a fast-paced stacks operation. Our goal is to ensure a book is on the shelf in an easily accessible, ordered collection, so that when a patron needs an item from Bass or Sterling, the experience is seamless. Working with a high-achieving student staff, you’ll learn about the mechanisms and systems that power a large, academic library system. Responsibilities in this position include varied and dynamic stacks maintenance activities, which we provide training on, including: Reading and understanding Library of Congress call numbers, sorting, shelving throughout 15 floors of the Sterling Stacks Tower & Bass Library, scanning and organizing the collections, filing, shifting collections to create shelf space, sweeping the building for missing materials, working with our library software to track statuses of items, identifying items in need of attention (preservation, spine labelling, etc.), and more.
