Job Description

The Yale University Art Gallery is hiring Gallery Guides to lead tours of the collection for the public. Students participate in a yearlong training program overseen by the Manager of Student Engagement in order to develop thematic, interactive, close-looking tours of the museum for the visiting public. Successful applicants will have a strong interest in art, museums, and education and will be able to work 3-5 hours a week, including regular trainings on Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 pm and Fridays from 3:00-4:30 pm.

Job Requirements

Yale undergraduate students from all academic disciplines are invited to apply. Appointments are for the academic year and begin late September. Ideal candidates will be available to work a minimum of two years during their academic tenure at Yale. Applicants must have a strong interest in art, museums, and education. Curiosity and commitment to community engagement are essential. Fall and spring semester hours are Thursdays, 3:30-5:00 pm, and Fridays, 3:00–4:30 pm, with up to two Saturday excursions throughout the year. As part of training, students must complete two research assignments in the fall and two research assignments in the spring. Applicants must commit to leading tours of the Gallery at the end of the Spring semester and throughout the following academic year. Deadline for applications is Sunday, September 7 at 11:59 pm.

 

Compensation $16.50/hour
