Job Description

Seeking Research Assistants (Geospatial Mapping and Visualization) for Land Use Maps Project–Law, Environment, & Animal Program

The Law, Environment & Animals Program (LEAP) at Yale Law School fosters impactful learning and scholarship on the legal, scientific, and moral dimensions of human–animal relationships, empowering the Yale community to advance positive change for animals, people, and the environment.

Position Overview:

LEAP seeks two research assistants (RAs) with skills in GIS and geospatial analysis for a Yale Planetary Solutions Impact! funded project focused on developing interactive state-level maps illustrating land use tied to animal agriculture. These maps will be built using publicly available datasets and will inform litigation, policy, and advocacy efforts around climate and land use reform.

The RA’s work will be overseen by Laura Fox, Litigation Fellow, Daina Bray, LEAP Legal Director, and Doug Kysar, LEAP Faculty Director. This position is paid hourly. Hourly rates vary by student classification: $17/hour for undergraduates, $17.50/hour for Yale Law School or master’s students, and $20.50/hour for PhD students. The expected time commitment is 6 to 8 hours per week. The position would begin immediately. Candidates who can commit to two terms (i.e., the full 2025-2026 academic year) will be prioritized.

These positions offer a chance to work on a high impact public-facing project while strengthening geospatial research and visualization skills.

The priority deadline is September 5, 2025. Applications received after the priority deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
