The Wu Tsai Institute is a major new initiative at Yale University with the mission to understand human cognition — how we perceive, think, remember, and decide — through neuroscience and data science. The Center for Neurocognition and Behavior, one of the Institute’s three research centers, houses BrainWorks, a world-class facility for measuring the healthy human brain and behavior in action with the latest technologies for safely measuring and manipulating brain activity with unparalleled precision (e.g., fMRI, MEG, OPM, EEG, fNIRS, TMS, sleep staging) and for capturing naturalistic behavior (e.g., VR, eye tracking, body tracking, psychophysiology, and psychophysics). BrainWorks is seeking a student programmer to provide technical and IT support for cognitive neuroscience research projects. The role is hands-on and highly varied, involving odd jobs in scripting, programming, and system administration. The ideal candidate enjoys problem-solving, picking up new tools quickly, and applying coding skills to real-world challenges in a research environment. Key Responsibilities - Programming & Development
- Write Python scripts to automate data handling, analysis pipelines, or experiment workflows.
- Build and maintain small utilities or applications to support lab operations.
- System & IT Support
- Assist with troubleshooting software, hardware, and configuration issues.
- Support integration of research software and computing resources.
- Optional Specialized Development
- Develop or extend interactive applications using Unity (C#).
- Create simple user interfaces using a UI toolkit (e.g., PyQt, Tkinter).
- Support lightweight web app development using Flask.
