Job Description

Yale College Web & IT Operations is seeking creative, motivated student developers with an interest in application development, workflow automation, and AI prototyping. This role is designed for computer science majors or students in related fields with programming experience who are eager to apply their skills to real-world projects that enhance the work and experiences of the Yale College community.

Responsibilities

Student Developers & AI Innovation Associates will collaborate with IT staff and campus partners to design, build, and test innovative digital solutions. Typical assignments include:

Developing custom applications, web tools, and scripts to streamline operations and improve user experiences.

Designing and prototyping AI-powered workflows and tools to support Yale College staff, students, and faculty.

Exploring integrations with existing platforms (e.g., Canvas, Microsoft 365, Drupal, Appspace).

Assisting with rapid prototyping of student- or staff-facing tools, from concept through demonstration.

Testing, documenting, and refining applications for usability, security, and accessibility.

Presenting prototypes and project outcomes to Yale College IT and community stakeholders.

Enrollment in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, JavaScript, or similar).

Creativity in problem-solving and interest in experimenting with new technologies.

Ability to manage projects, work independently, and meet deadlines.

Strong communication skills to explain technical solutions to non-technical audiences.

Job Requirements

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with web frameworks (e.g., Node.js, React, or Django).

Familiarity with AI/ML tools or APIs (OpenAI, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, etc.).

Interest in UX/UI design and human-centered computing.

Previous work on personal, academic, or open-source software projects.

Compensation $20./hour
