Job Description
The Environmental Leadership & Training Initiative (ELTI, http://elti.yale.edu) is launching a new “Project Incubator” program to provide seed grants, mentorship, and training to selected graduates of our Tropical Forest Landscapes: Conservation, Restoration & Sustainable Use (TFL) online certificate program. The TFL Project Incubator program will empower these past participants to implement aspects of the Capstone project they developed during the TFL program. ELTI is seeking to hire a YSE student to work with us as a Conservation and Restoration Project Incubator Fellow to support the design and launch of this exciting new program. The Fellow will first support research into small grants programs both internal and external to Yale to learn about successful practices and models for mentorship, training, grant stewardship, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning. Then, the Fellow will support further efforts to design and launch the call for applicants and related mentorship activities to enhance restoration and conservation project implementation, as well as to fill a gap of seed funding needed to pilot innovative social and technical practices.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Experience related to conservation or restoration projects and/or grant administration
Prior training or experience in tropical forest conservation and restoration, land use management, agroforestry, mangroves, community engagement, climate change, carbon markets, conservation finance, and other related themes
Professionalism, positive attitude, and ability to work in a multi-cultural context
Excellent time management and communication skills
Ability to quickly learn and use new software and tools
Job Requirements
The Conservation and Restoration Project Incubator Fellow will have the opportunity to work closely with ELTI staff, interact with programs across Yale, and interview incubator programs at organizations globally. Thus, candidates must demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, and enthusiasm to work on environmental causes and capacity development in the tropics. Principal responsibilities will be to:
Identify relevant small grant and incubator programs at Yale and externally
Design and implement a methodology to research small grant and incubator programs, through desk research and interviews. Research will include but is not limited to successful practices, potential challenges, and models for mentorship, training, grant stewardship, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
In collaboration with ELTI staff, provide a set of recommendations for the TFL Project Incubator Program based on learnings from similar programs.
Other tasks related to the Fall 2025 planning and design of the program and the Spring 2026 launch of the call for applicants.
