Job Description
  1. Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) hires instructional staff to teach in-person at Yale University. Preferred candidates include undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent graduates, with a desire to teach and a passion for working cooperatively with others. Instructional staff mentor and teach students in one of our YYGS academic tracks.

  1. Successful candidates will demonstrate genuine academic and professional interest/experience in fields related to one or more of these academic tracks. Ideal candidates will also have excellent communication skills, organizational skills, mentoring/teaching experience, and/or previous experience with YYGS or a similar program.

  1. Limited summer housing available in exchange for extra duties: 

  1. Residential Instructors: Assist with check-in/out; nightly suites checks for participants (reporting to the respective College Lead staff member); chaperone various evening activities in coordination with the Residential Life team; Support Residential Life staff by proactively communicating with and locating YYGS participants across residential colleges, classrooms, and the Yale/New Haven area to ensure their timely attendance at scheduled program activities 

  1. Three meals a day covered in our residential college dining halls, with the exception of inter-session weekends.    

Job Requirements

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is an academic summer enrichment program for outstanding high school students from around the world administered by Yale’s Office of International Affairs (OIA). In 2026, YYGS will host up to 650 high school students in a series of three in-person academic enrichment programs, each 2-weeks in length. Sessions will cover academic topics in STEM, social sciences, and cross-disciplinary areas. 

  

The 2026 summer dates are as follows: 

  • Virtual Instructor Curricular Training:  

  • Part I: Saturday, February 28, 2026 (via Zoom) 

  • Part II: Saturday, April 18, 2026 (via Zoom) 

  • In-person Summer Staff Orientation: June 18 - 19, 2026  

  • Move-in day for YYGS Instructors will be June 17, 2026 

  • Session I: June 21 - July 3

YYGS is currently hiring undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates to teach, mentor, and supervise a diverse group of high school students. Instructors work collaboratively to create a successful and memorable program. The ideal candidate is someone looking to grow and improve as an educator. Applicants can commit to teaching all three summer sessions, or a minimum of teaching two sessions.  

Instructor Position Description: Instructors take on many responsibilities to help facilitate the program.  

Academics: 

  • Attend all virtual and in-person (orientation) trainings 

  • Attend all faculty lectures and facilitate and moderate breakout sessions following those lectures 

  • Familiarize self with capstone curriculum to lead and support students in their research projects and presentations 

  • Develop and deliver 3 unique seminars, on topics of personal and professional interest 

  • Mentor and advise students in a collaborative, 6-hour long symposium activities over two days 

  • Work with other members of the YYGS instructional staff to build teaching skills 

  • Aid leadership team as necessary in administering program policy and ensuring student comfort and security 

  • Offer a 5-minute talk or a special meal conversation on topics of the instructors choosing per session

Program Logistics:  

  • Taking student attendance 

  • In order to utilize our attendance apps instructors will need to be able to use the Cvent app. The software needed to run these apps are: iOS 15 and higher or Android 10 and higher 

  • Ensure students are following program rules and model respectful behavior

(1)     Graduate or undergraduate degree in progress and/or completed. 

(2)     Demonstrated academic and professional interest in fields related to the sessions offered. 

(3)     Commitment for the duration of the session(s) employed. Fulfillment of required training and preparation duties and orientation prior to the program.  

(4)     Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in response to changing work demands. 

  

  

Preferred Skills 

(1)     Experience teaching or mentoring others. 

(2)     Excellent oral and written communication skills.  

(3)     Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.  

(4)     Previous experience teaching or mentoring high school students preferred.  

(5)     Ability to commit to a full 6 weeks of the program is highly preferred. 

  

YYGS Instructor Pay for summer 2026 is as follows: 

Staff Role 

Teaching 3 sessions (6-week commitment) 

Teaching 2 sessions (4-week commitment)
