2026-2027 Academic Year YCBA Bartels Internship: Installations Application Deadline: May 1, 2026 at 11:59pm Department Description: The Installation department at the YCBA is responsible for the handling, movement, and care of artwork within the museum. The department also plans and executes the design and installation of temporary exhibitions, including gallery layouts and exhibition furniture developed through 2D and 3D design processes. Position Description: During the 2026–2027 academic year, the intern will assist with the preparation and installation of two exhibitions: a major exhibition of the British painter Gwen John—Gwen John: Strange Beauties—opening in February 2027; as well as contributing to the development of a fall 2027 exhibition titled Elizabethan Splendor. The intern will gain hands-on experience across all phases of exhibition work, including design, preparation, construction, and installation for both shows. Essential Duties: - Assist with exhibition preparation
- Support development of exhibition design plans
- Participate in art handling and gallery setup under supervision
- Assist with fabrication and preparation of exhibition materials including cases, furniture, and other infrastructure
- Observe and contribute to the full exhibition lifecycle from concept to installation
