2026-2027 Academic Year YCBA Bartels Internship: Collections Information Access Application Deadline: May 1, 2026 at 11:59pm Department Description: The Collections Information Access department of the YCBA is responsible for sharing the museum’s art collections with visitors via the museum’s online collections catalogue and with cultural institutions at and beyond Yale University. With more than two thousand paintings and nearly sixty thousand works on paper, the museum’s art collection is the largest and most comprehensive collection of British art outside the United Kingdom. Project Description: Working under the supervision of Emmanuelle Delmas-Glass, Head of Collections Information Access, the Bartels Academic Year intern will work on the ownership history of the painting collection with the goal of publishing it to the museum’s website. The intern will work independently and in consultation with the museum’s curators and archivists to contribute to provenance research currently underway. The intern will conduct research by consulting sources outlined by the department and work in the museum’s art collection database (TMS). The intern will gain valuable skills in provenance research; the YCBA’s painting collection with a focus on John Constable, George Stubbs, and J. M. W. Turner; collection data management; the museum’s online collections catalogue; and interdepartmental collaboration.
Specific tasks may include:
- Researching biographical information on previous owners and provide published authority records for them in the provenance team’s SharePoint site
- Working in the TMS database to create new records for dealers involved in the provenance of YCBA paintings
- Entering in TMS the final version of provenance entries after they have been approved by curators
- Updating the provenance team channel to reflect the progress of the project
